Mjølfjell Askje at Snopeak
Seppala Percentage of 78.16%
Born: 05.08.94 | Died: 06.05.10
Askje joined us early in the naughties, running on our 4-dog team and adopting us. She came from a kennel of 25, and with 2 of her sisters and her mother they pretty much ruled the roost at Jays and as such did not appreciate other bitches or pups. At her age it was not something we were going to try to change and though we did not like having to segregate dogs, she was kennelled with her brother Lakota.
Eventually she no longer ran in our team when training, which was a decision we took for her as she was so head strong that we believe that she would have still run with them and tried to keep up! Since the coming of our main team and the initiation of the Scooter class, that is where she competed, except once at the 2006/07 BSHRA end of season event where there was no scooter class so she ran in cani-cross with Ewan and took 3rd place out of 15, just 5 seconds behind 2nd place on a trail of a bit over a mile.
This picture of Askje, also used in the US press, was taken by Brian Skilton at the UK’s first ever scooter race at Tenstsmuir forest in November 2003 when she was 9 years old , which of course we won. Askje won more than 25 races in the scooter class including one when she was 13 years old!
